Returning for the second year in a row-Indian Valley Youth Summit (Aid Station #11) will be a stopping point for the marathon and 1/2 marathon runners! IVYS was started three years ago to try and strengthen the youth of Indian Valley. The group is made up of local adults and youth.

IVYS meet once a month and have put on two community fun days, gave out a scholarship to a local graduating high school senior and have attended various trainings on youth suicide, prevention and resiliency. They have an awesome mentoring program with seven adult mentors paired with seven students in Indian Valley. This year they are joining the local supermarket-Evergreen to help with Kidfest on August 8th. They will be face painting, hair braiding and mural drawing and games. What a group!

This aid station will feature a port-o-potty, but that’s not the only thing to get excited about! They have been working hard all summer making and painting big cardboard bears with signs with inspiring and funny quotes. They will also have a decorated pop up shade tent and a bunch of different snacks.

If Indian Valley Youth Summit win in one of the categories, they would use the money to fund their projects. They are looking into resiliency training that makes kids stronger, more confident and better able to combat bullying and thoughts of suicide. They have been researching resiliency programs in schools. They are also working on information cards to pass out to the youth and parents in the community. A “Indian Valley Parent Resource Card” and a “Healthy Choices for Youth” handout.

Remember to vote for your favorite aid station at the finish line in the categories of “Best Theme” “Best Spirit” and “Best Snack.”
